The Eco-Shed is located on Bowen Island, at the entrance to Howe Sound, near Vancouver, B.C. Canada (see map below). The island is served by car ferry from the B.C. Ferries Horseshoe Bay Terminal in West Vancouver.
If you choose to walk on the ferry in Horseshoe Bay, please note that overnight parking is extremely limited during summer weekends. The terminal is accessible from downtown Vancouver by West Vancouver Public Transit, select route #250 or #257.
The Eco-Shed is within walking distance of Snug Cove village, but we are located high on the hillside above the village. It is a vigorous 15- to 20-minute walk uphill, and about 10 minutes down. If you walk on the B.C. ferries ship, given advance notice we will be pleased to pick you up at the dock and shuttle you and your bags up to your suite. From there, we provide you with a walking trail map of the area; the popular Artisan Square district, with yoga, a day spa, deli, and shops, is a short 10 minute stroll away. We provide detailed directions and a walking map of the area upon reservation.
Unless you are an extremely fit and committed cyclist, we do not recommend you bring your bicycle over—the island’s steep topography is unforgiving, shoulders are generally unavailable, and pavement surface is less than ideal for thin tires. If you choose to leave your vehicle on the mainland, yet still want to explore Bowen beyond Artisan Square and the Village, we recommend the island bus service [Schedule, 416 KB PDF]. You might also consider hitchhiking — a green means of getting around the island popular among locals. With either option, you are all-but guaranteed to meet some new friends!
